(they/them)
Hi, I’m Alex!
I’m a clinical social worker with a passion for meeting people where they are and working to empower others to achieve their goals to live their best life. As a member of the RISE Team, I’m honored to work for and beside other professionals who embody my values and are committed to providing quality and critical health care to underserved communities.
A little about me: I spent six years in the United States Army as an intelligence analyst. I received my bachelor’s degree in theology from Siena Heights University and my Master of Social Work from Wayne State University in Detroit. My hope is to pursue my certification in sex therapy.
My partner and I have five children, including three grown children and our elementary-aged triplets. I love musical theatre. I especially enjoy singing to the ‘Hamilton: An American Musical’ soundtrack. My favorite movie is "The Princess Bride." Running, practicing yoga, and seeking connection with something bigger than myself are my means of self-care: body, mind, and spirit. There is a special place in my heart for the city of Detroit. I am, and will forever be, a true Detroit Lions fan.
I am a therapist with a plethora of personal and professional experiences that enable me to quickly relate and connect with others. In my practice, I utilize a variety of perspectives/methods depending on the individual needs and goals of my clients. I am always person-centered, empathetic, and strengths/empowerment based.
I love working and supporting people through life transitions and exploration of identity. Throughout my career, my primary focus has been working with clients with either severe traumatic experiences and/or extensive trauma histories.
I have worked with many clients who hold identities such as: queer, gay, lesbian, transgender, asexual, aromantic, non-binary, genderfluid, pansexual, polyamorous, and others. As a member of the LGBTQIA2+ community, I can relate to many of the challenges experienced by members of marginalized, oppressed, and minority communities. A portion of my professional career has included working with primarily BIPOC clients in Detroit, veterans, people living in different sized bodies, and those who have concerns around foster care/adoption.
I acknowledge religious trauma has been particularly prevalent for LBGTQIA2+ communities and others. I am especially equipped with the background, training, and skills to provide compassionate care for clients who have this experience and may be seeking support processing this type of trauma. I also have the ability and a special interest in working with those who desire to explore their spirituality at any level.
No matter your identity, history, or reason for seeking therapy, I will do my very best to understand YOUR individual experience and needs. I will affirm your truth and believe your story. My hope is that our work together will lead to an increased sense of quality of life, fulfillment, and greater overall health. I look forward to working with you, your partner(s) and/or family members to set and achieve your therapeutic goals. It is my privilege to travel with you, my client, along your therapeutic journey.
Peace-
Alex
