(she/her)

Hi! My name is JB.

I am a clinical social worker who believes strongly in the therapeutic alliance. Though I may be educated in mental health, my clients are the experts in themselves, and we enter the therapeutic space, together, as equals, with a common goal. I enter every session with empathy, patience, and curiosity. Trust building is a necessary part of developing a positive relationship and this process can take months or even years. I am here to support you on your journey!

Though most Michiganders are horrified when I share that I am from Ohio, I hope you can accept me regardless of my origins. I went to Ohio University for my undergraduate degree in social work and spent some time working as a domestic violence advocate before going to graduate school at the University of Cincinnati where I studied clinical social work. I am a domestic violence expert and used to testify in domestic violence court cases. Though I am still passionate about supporting survivors, I now provide that support through therapy.

I moved to Detroit, Michigan with my partner because we wanted to find a city to call home that reflects our values and has a strong sense of community. Detroit offers global warming resilience, diversity, and good food. I am happy to call Michigan home. My partner and I have a dog and a cat. You will get to know my cat, Audre, very well as she enjoys joining in for virtual sessions.

Through my years working as a therapist, I have developed comfort and knowledge when it comes to working with people who have trauma and neurodivergence. I am neurodivergent myself and find I work well with other neurodivergent people. Though previously, I have worked mainly with severe mental illness, I have experience working in the sexual health field due to the overlap between sexual health and trauma.

Some populations I have experience with include trans folks, sex workers, gender non-conforming folks, people involved in the kink community, and polyam couples or individuals in poly relationships.

I have found that a positive relationship with one's body is essential for stable mental health. We can work together to strengthen your mind/body connection and express yourself to your fullest potential while maintaining safety.
