When: Sunday, June 29th, 2025

Where:  Gallup Park Playground

3175 Gallup Park Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48104

Time: 10 am

Join us for a movement-based community gathering to celebrate the joy of Pride Month.  There will be routes for walkers, runners, and folks in between who want to try beginner running. This is not a competitive event, so you can leave your A-game at home.  Just bring a good attitude and comfortable shoes.  We will try our best to make routes accessible for those on wheels (strollers, chairs), but this is not an event for cyclists, with the short routes and pedestrian traffic.  Bring yourself, friends, family, partners, kids, and/or pets!

Check out the FAQs section below for more information.

Who is invited?

  • YOU and anyone you want to bring.  If you are values-aligned, please come celebrate and be a part of our community.  We love our straight and cis allies.

  • Kids?  Yep. Kids are welcome, but please keep in mind that you are responsible for the safety and well-being of your little humans.

  • Pets?  We would love to meet your furry family members, but please keep them on a leash, in a carrier, or in your arms, for their safety and everyone else’s.  We have lots of sensory-sensitive folks in our community.

What do I need to participate?

  • Comfortable shoes (or your necessary mobility devices) and a good attitude

  • Some folks might want sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, etc., as we will be outside

  • Bring your own hydration or snack for before, during, or after if you would like

Should I Dress up?

  • Pride attire is always celebrated, but not required.  Wear your rainbow gear, pronoun pin, or anything that affirms your identity.  At the same time, you don’t need to be decorated to be included in our community.  Show up as you are in comfortable clothing, and you are welcome here!

A note on respect and consent:

  • RESPECT THE SPACE OF OTHERS. Ask for consent before touching humans or pets.

  • RESPECT PRONOUNS (if you struggle with this, please reach out or contact us for tips)

  • Please refrain from photographing folks without their permission.  This especially applies to children and vulnerable folks within our community.

What do I do if my therapist is there?

  • Know that they are happy to see you!

  • HOWEVER, keep in mind that your therapist will NOT approach you in a public setting due to confidentiality reasons (which may feel weird to be ignored by someone who knows so many intimate details about your life).  YOU are welcome to initiate that contact or re-introduce yourself to maintain anonymity. Please have a conversation with your therapist individually if you are unsure what this will look like or how you want to navigate that interaction.

What if I’m not a runner?

  • The point of Friendship Miles is to include everyone in running events.  We don’t need you to be fast or have the best gear to join.  This isn’t that kind of club.  Our only goal is to build community.  Show up and chat with others.  Run if you feel inclined to; walk if that feels good for your body; sit on a park bench and chat with others if that’s how you want to enjoy the space.

  • We will have an intro/beginner run for folks who want to give it a try.  This will be interval-based, which involves short segments of alternating running and walking.

  • The Friendship Miles pace is designed to be EASY so that you can talk while exercising. Slow down and make a friend!
